Hilton Worldwide Holdings is deciding whether to sell a stake in its flagship Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, or possibly the entire property.

In a phone interview with Bloomberg Businessweek on Thursday, Hilton CEO Christopher Nassetta said, "We may look to reposition the hotel," but the company has not yet decided how or with who. Nassetta said accomplishing the repositioning would require money, which would come from "selling all or a stake in the hotel."

Hilton, the world's largest publicly traded hotel operator, suggested using the historic Park Avenue property for residential, office and retail purposes. It acquired the storied property in 1972. The hotel has 1,232 rooms, which start at $249 per night, according to the Waldorf's website.

Not to be confused with millionaire William Waldorf Astor's original hotel, which became the location for the Empire State Building, today's Waldorf Astoria hotel opened on Oct. 1, 1931, as what was then the tallest and largest hotel in the world.
